PlateMatching®
What it is and what are the advantages of its Use
PlateMatching software is a collection of APIs and libraries that utilize internationally patented technology in over 38 countries. It enables the detection of vehicles traveling above the permitted average speed along a specific road segment.
Plate Matching technology belongs to the second generation of average speed detection technologies. It has the capability to determine if a vehicle, detected by both the incoming and outgoing peripheral units, is potentially violating the speed limit.
What sets PlateMatching software apart from first-generation software?
The second-generation methodology involves comparing images from incoming and outgoing remote sensing stations to determine their similarity. This statistical approach significantly reduces the chances of mistakenly identifying two vehicles traveling within a short and specific time frame on a given road or highway section. Unlike first-generation software, which relies solely on number plate recognition, the PlateMatching software does not solely depend on the identification of number plates. This eliminates the risk of errors caused by incorrect recognition of the outgoing vehicle’s number plate, resulting in the deletion of both frames.
Why use PlateMatching software? There are several reasons to consider using PlateMatching software:
- Very High Reliability: PlateMatching software offers a very high reliability rate, with over 99% accuracy in detecting offending vehicles.
- Effective Monitoring: The system is highly effective in monitoring the speed of vehicles regardless of their nationality or the condition of their number plates. This is particularly important in contexts where first-generation systems, based on automatic number plate recognition, have low efficiency.
- Privacy-Focused Enforcement: PlateMatching software ensures enforcement with full respect for privacy. Number plate reading and subsequent vehicle identification only occur after an offense has been detected and are limited to vehicles that are actually in violation. This approach preserves the privacy of law-abiding citizens.
Plate Matching Software Data Sheet
The Plate Matching software is comprised of two distinct software modules: the Image Analysis Library (used in peripheral devices) and the Transit Matching Module (to be used where matching is executed).
Image Analysis Library (detector)
This module is used to analyze images detected by peripheral systems located at the beginning and end of the monitored section. It is typically installed on an image processing system, either embedded in the camera or external. By utilizing simple APIs, images can be processed and a code can be extracted for subsequent matching. It is important to note that this code does not allow for vehicle identification. The simple API facilitates easy and effective interaction between the peripheral software and the library.
Transit Matching Module
The matching module analyzes the codes extracted from the peripheral image analysis modules and determines which codes can be matched, indicating that they belong to the same vehicle. For each analyzed code pair, the library provides an outcome indicating whether the two codes belong to the same vehicle or not, as well as a reliability score for the match. The software utilizing the library compares the transit strings from the start station with those from the end station to extract the best possible match.
